The Best Way to Arrange Baby Furniture in the Nursery

26 March, 2018

It is a fun activity to plan your baby’s nursery, but some parents feel overwhelmed at the many decisions that need to be made. Without the right furniture and a good layout, the nursery won’t meet your needs.

Many parents choose a minimalist layout to maintain organization and to make it easy to navigate. Make sure that you choose furniture with good safety ratings to protect your child. Here are a few things to consider when you are planning your nursery:

Crib Safety

The baby crib is where the child will spend most of their time in the room, so you shouldn’t skip some of the important safety features. For example, old crib designs with moving sides can be quite dangerous, and many of these cribs have been recalled. Instead of risking the safety of your child by using an old crib, it is better to buy a new one that is designed to be up-to-date with new crib regulations.

Additionally, be selective about the crib placement. Don’t have the crib up against a hot or drafty window. Make sure that the crib is far away from curtains, blinds, and other types of soft hanging fabric that might be a choking hazard. Keep the crib away from shelves, dressers, and the changing table to reduce the risk of the child grabbing something.

Plan for the Future

You might choose a crib that can be converted into a toddler bed, to avoid the need to buy new furniture in a few years. There are cribs that can last through childhood, making it easy to transition to bigger mattresses as the child grows. Buying the right furniture can save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars in future furniture purchases.

Changing Table and Dresser

You will spend a lot of time changing diapers, so it is important to have a sturdy changing station to use. Keep harmful items on high shelves away from the baby’s reach. Clothing, diapers, and wipes should be placed conveniently nearby so that you can grab these items as needed. Also, the child should never be left unattended on the changing table.

Nursery Glider

You will spend a lot of time in the nursery feeding your baby or rocking her back to sleep. Choose a comfortable nursery glider and place it near the crib. Many parents also like to have a side table where you can place a lamp, bottles, burp rags, and anything else that might be needed in the middle of the night.
